2nd grade has been learning about local officials and the election process.
Today Mrs. Paup and Mrs. Schneemann's 2nd grade classes went to visit the Upton County Courthouse and Annex. Election Administrator, Hayley Abalos, gave an informational presentation that included some of the following things: things you might see on a ballot, different types of ballots/voting (voting by mail, curbside voting), what you need to vote (specific identification) and the rules/common courtesy when it comes to voting.
The 2nd graders then were able to walk to the Annex and participate in a mock election that Mrs. Abalos had prepared. Here the students had to show their voter registration card they made in class along with their identification cards made for them by the election team. Once they had shown they had the correct identification they needed to vote they were able to go vote on the equipment and place their vote with their ballot.
Once all the students had voted they walked back to the courtroom. They eagerly awaited the results of their election by enjoying some cookies and drinks provided by the Election Office.
Mrs. Paup, Mrs. Schneeman and the 2nd graders would like to thank the Election Office, Election Team and Judge Kilgore for the educational afternoon. We appreciate all the effort you put into making this happen for our students. We all truly enjoyed it.
